My wife and I ( in our 60s ) will be travelling to the gambia in jan feb 2011 would take a passenger or two if expenses are shared? or if someone wants to take their own vehicle and follow us?

I really want to do an overland trip through africa, relatively flexible on leaving date, times etc, but would like to share the experience with like minded travellers. I have done nothing like this before, and have no mechanical expertise !! Any inputs on how to get started on all this would be much appreciated …………..

Hi Paul, there are quite a few overland tour companies that do trips, people like Dragoman etc. If you are looking to join a tour they are probably a good bet. I personally would try and find a travel companion or two and do it yourself, its a bit more rewarding and you have all the freedom in the world!

I’ve just arrived home from a holiday in Nerja. The weather wasn’t great but of all the areas in Andalucia, this was our favourite. Super food and wine and charming people. Can’t wait to go back.

Well Deji its a long story, but in short. We got the car as far as Ghana before deciding that we didn’t want to abandon it in the bush, as we knew it couldn’t make it the whole way. My travel companion Matt also decided to go home as we were so short on funds. So I carried on alone on bush taxis and hitch hiking. I have to admit the boys in uniform did cause me a bit of trouble, but everyone in the towns and villages were awesome.

I just came across this entry, and help but be intrigued! What exactly did you come to do in Nigeria? An overland expedition with no vehicle??

Pray, tell me how you woulda escaped the boys in unifirm if you were driving?? Wanna give me the whole gist of the journey?
